India
OH MY GOD I LOVE INDIA. Money rules this country....I LOVE IT. Labor is so cheap that everybody here has drivers (they dont even have to drive themselves anywhere), full maid service, full grocery delivery, etc. My grandparents have a little south indian girl they hire every day to cook and clean and whatnot. This isnt an exploitation of labor either....she gets paid....about 2000 rupees a month (about 40 dollars a month). That's pretty sweet, consider the maids at my house in california make about 280 dollars a month from us and they dont do half the shit our maid here does. Another thing about this country (which is actually a very bad thing) is that ALL of the government officials, especially the police, are extremely corrupt. My cousin told me that everybody on the road always carries a few hundred rupees because you can easily bribe the police and get out of a ticket and whatnot....this country is great, money rules all. It's friday night here and I'm in an internet cafe. This country has changed so much. Globalization is such a wonderful development. There's a ton of corporate presence which has resulted in so many new jobs, so many new, nice, businesses (like the one im sitting in) and a higher quality of life. I love globalization. On monday i'll be leaving for bangalore (south india). It's a two day train ride. Christina will be on vacation with her family and we are hoping to meet up with one another in bangalore. That's it for now I guess. Im gonna retire in india, i seriously am. A starving artist in the US could live like a king with the exchange rate. I love money. Peace out. | | Tuesday, July 5th, 2005 | | 4:10 pm |
Ok, so I never really got into this livejournal thing, but, alas, I have found a "practical" purpose for it. My brother and I are en-route to India for a month long vacation. Right now, I am editing my journal from an internet cafe in Incheon Airport, in Korea. Holy fucking shit, I have never seen this many asians in my life (sorry, that comment was meant to be more observational than offensive). I will be updated this journal everyday (at least I'll try to anyway) So the beginning of the trip. Our flight left SFO at 1:30 AM on july 3rd (btw, as i am writing this, i am going to refrain from capitalizing anything else, because, if you hit the shift key and press any other key, the goddamn computer will convert to fuckin korean) the fools at asiana airlines almost waitlisted us...waitlisted on a fucking international flight when we showed up two hours before the bording time. goddamn. anyway, being the indian baller that my dad is, he whipped out his cellphone, assured my brother and i not to worry, spoke in punjabi to someone on the phone, and within thirty seconds my brother and i were issued bording passes at the counter. who did my dad call? his friend....the president of the indian division of asiana airlines (sweeeet). our flight landed in korea at 5 in the morning, and our plane is due to leave in about 3 hours (at 7 pm). at first my brother and i wanted to head into the city for a few hours, but we realised that it would be very hard to venture out of the airport and into the city by ourselves seeing as how it took us ten minutes to figure out how to use the calling cards and prepaid phones. so, we've decided to just chill in the airport for 14 hours or so, but it' really not that bad. the Incheon airport is really nice, super modern, super technologically sound, lots of shopping, internet cafes, video games, and huge LG plasma screens on which to watch korean baseball and fight club in korean. the flight to korea from sfo was 12 hours, and the flight from korea to delhi is another 8 hours. i hope you all had a wonderful fourth of july, my brother and i never really had one. we left sfo on july 3rd, and we reached in korea on july 5th....go figure. i'll be updating more often once i get settled in india. here's a list of observations i have made about korea 1) everything is REALLY clean, there are workers that take lint rollers to the mats and carpets and stuff 2) fuckin koreans will try to rip you off (unintended overgeneralization, but, whatever) iPod shuffle for 175 USD? sorry Charlie, i can get that at home in the good ol USA for 99 bucks 3) good food....HELLA good food 4) it's really humid outside 5) FUCKIN KOREANS EVERYWHERE!!!!! this can be a good or a bad thing....but no white people, no black people, no indian people...just asians everywhere (hey, its korea, i know, but still) 6) everything is top of the line and automated stay safe everyone and have a wonderful summer. take care rohan | | Monday, May 2nd, 2005 | | 10:21 pm |

Life is VERY good right now...
So today I made the ultimate decision NOT to stay in the dorms at
berkeley.. Why put up with shitty housing, shitty, small spaces with
shitty food when I can save my parents about 44K over 4 years and stay
at home? I'll totally make my mom do the laundry as well, that would be
the life.
The real selling point is the new automobile that I will acquire.
Because I'm saving my parents so much money by A) going to public
school B) living at home I was told that I'm entitled to a pretty darn
nice car. If you've known me, you know that I want a BMW M3, and my dad
was willing to buy me one, an older one, around 95-98 model year. Today
my dad dropped a bomb-shell....he was talking about getting me a
tricked out 2001 Audi S4. One of my dad's customers is selling one
(it's for sale in Colorado, we'd get it shipped over here). It's a 2.7L
turbocharged engine...and the best thing is that it's practically brand
new. I really had no idea I'd be looking forward to this type of car.
Here's what I'd be getting before....
Here's what I'll likely be getting now
Life's good, friends, life's good
There are a few stipulations for getting such a fine piece of machinery
1) I need to stay Indian (ie not fail out of college, not get arrested, worship Vishnu, pretend like I dont eat beef, etc)
2) I need to work my ASS off in the stores pretty much for the rest of my young life
3) I must remain ticketless (which won't be a problem bc the dude is including a nice radar detector with the S4)

Ok, here's an update on my life, my life being college. This is my final outcome minus two schools. Acceptances: UCLA (sweet) UCB (sweet X100, this is where I'm going) UCSB (safety) UCSC (safety) UCSD (sweet) UCD (safety) York College (apparently it's really shitty) Honors Business Finance at the University of Durham, in the UK (apparently, it's a hella good school, but im not going) Here's the fun part Flat out rejections: UPenn (harsh, but not unexpected) Northwestern (understandable) Tufts (fuck Tufts, I thought I had this one in the bag, straight up) Cornell (read above) Pomona (I got a letter from them the day decisions came out saying my application was incomplete.....i was angry, but whatever) Columbia (I didn't apply, but I still got rejected? yes, this is true) A few UK equivalents of Princeton, Harvard, etc Waitlistings Emory (fuck Emory too, I thought I had this one) Wash U (eh, fine) University of Chicago (WTF, i had this one, i really did) Claremont McKenna (maguire must have written a shitty rec letter because I'm not getting into these privates I should have gotten into, but whatever, not complaining after Cal) I'm still waiting on Stanford and The London School of Economics and Political Science, but I'm not holding my breath. I'll be getting an M3 soon. At the beginning of the year my dad told me that if I got into Cal, he'd buy me a BMW M3. | | Sunday, February 27th, 2005 | | 2:16 pm |

You Are a Capitalist Republican |

Money makes your world go round - and it's no surprise that you always vote your wallet.
You're financially successful (or plan to be), and your agenda is low tax and pro business.
You don't get fired up about abortion... but mention capital gains tax, and you go crazy.
You want government to be as small as possible - and to stay out of the way of business.
| Uh huh, that's right bitches. G35 Day 1. Top out at 130 mph on 24 going towards Oakland right before the Orinda exit. G35 Day 2. Goal is to top out at 140mph | | Thursday, November 4th, 2004 | | 11:53 pm |
